The Realisation
That moment you see what God wants you to see
Some people speak about receiving ‘a revelation from God’. A better word would be a realisation. It’s actually a realisation of the revelation. The Word itself is the revelation. Our understanding is a realisation.
It’s as if a light goes on and illuminates things in a way we never saw before. The light was always there, but now it is apparent to us. In this way God’s Word is a lamp unto our feet, as David put it.
It’s the moment you see what God wants you to see.
The word of God is the ageless revealed truth from God through His servants, the Prophets and the Apostles, who received the revelatory Word from God and wrote it for us so that we could live according to its precepts.
The realisation is that moment when a word, or a passage, or a teaching from the Word comes alive to us and we suddenly see what God wants us to see. It is His will coming to fruition in our lives.
Only with a regular, preferably daily, regime of reading, study and application will this come to pass in our lives. As Paul says, "“Study to show yourselves approved.”
There’s a sense in which we are immediately in tune with God when we are born again, but also that we have so much to learn. Our understanding comes alive, but there is an age of understanding to grasp.
Disciples are learners
Being a believer comes with responsibilities, especially if we consider ourselves to be disciples of Christ.
A disciple is a disciplined person; someone who knows how to be in control of their will, appetites and senses; someone who is keen to learn how this life can be lived and to discover the benefits of holiness.
The most effective way to achieve this is to be led by the Spirit. The Apostle Paul says we should walk in the Spirit, that way we will demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit, which include self-control.
To be led by the Spirit we will need to be conversant with the Word of God. Here, in God’s message to us, the Bible, is the download of heavenly information we require to understand all that God is saying to us personally and collectively.
We need to be students of the Word and Spirit. Not just in reading and study, but in practical and obedient application. We read and hear what God says and accept it as truth, putting it into practice in our lives.
A daily regime of being doers of the Word and of being in the Spirit will bring great rewards as we learn to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. This we will do by hearing the voice of God in His words to us.
With constant practice of His Presence by reading and meditating on scripture we’ll start to hear God’s voice within our regenerated spirit through the download of the Word of God.
Then we will have a daily realisation of all He is saying to us and how we can put His will into practice in our lives.
